Damar Hamlin Launches CPR Tour in Japan To Demonstrate AEDs Empower Quick Action
What if you could help save a life? That’s the message Damar Hamlin brought to Japan in late March, alongside The Chasing M’s Foundation, ZOLL Medical, the Japan American Football Association, and the American Heart Association.
Through live CPR and AED demonstrations, engaging with students and spectators, and donating ZOLL AEDs, Hamlin showcased how AEDs enable bystanders to take life-saving action. With step-by-step voice instructions and real-time CPR feedback, ZOLL AEDs give rescuers the confidence to act and help save lives.
Damar Hamlin’s Mission to Expand CPR and AED Awareness
Hamlin, an Ambassador for ZOLL’s Anything Can Happen. Anyone Can Help™ public education platform, launched his CPR Tour concept in 2023 and has traveled throughout the United States and internationally, giving back to honor donors from around the world who supported him when he experienced cardiac arrest during a live NFL game two years ago.
Since experiencing cardiac arrest in January 2023, my Chasing M’s Foundation charity has created a tour to raise awareness and teach people about the importance of knowing CPR and having AEDs available,” said Hamlin.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to connect with youth in Japan and grateful to my partners – the American Heart Association, Japan Flag Football Association, Japan American Football Association and ZOLL Medical. Together, we are teaching youth that learning CPR is a superpower that allows each of us to be prepared to help save a life. As my experience has shown us, you never know when you could have the chance to save a life.
CPR and AED Training at the American School in Japan
While in Japan, Hamlin met with hundreds of students and teachers at the American School in Japan, to share his experience and talk about the importance of learning CPR.
He also spoke at the opening Ceremony of the Japan Flag Football Championship, held at the Fujitsu Stadium Kawasaki in Kanagawa. Each of the events involved hands-only CPR training and encouragement that AEDs are made for bystanders to use during emergencies.
Hamlin also donated ZOLL AEDs from the Chasing M’s Foundation to the American School in Japan, and AED training equipment to the Kawasaki City Board of Education for use at schools in the community.
Japan American Football Association and ZOLL on CPR Awareness
Masahiro Terada, President of the Japan American Football Association, expressed appreciation for the initiative:
We hope that children and adults who play American football and flag football in Japan will not only learn CPR but also become more aware of the importance of staying healthy and being prepared in case of a sudden incident. We thank Chasing M’s Foundation, ZOLL Medical, and the American Heart Association for making this event possible.
Elijah White, President of ZOLL Acute Care Technology, emphasized the role of AEDs in a cardiac emergency:
Immediate CPR and access to an AED are critical in a cardiac emergency, and for many bystanders, stepping in to help can feel overwhelming. That’s why ZOLL AEDs do more than just deliver a shock – they provide real-time CPR feedback, guiding rescuers with clear instructions and reassurance that they’re performing high-quality chest compressions.
We are proud to expand our collaboration with Damar and support the Chasing M’s Foundation mission to ensure more communities worldwide are equipped with the tools and confidence to save lives.
