Update: The first video in our series is now live!

ZOLL Medical as part of its Anything Can Happen. Anyone Can Help. campaign is proud to announce an upcoming video series inspired by the remarkable rescue of 16-year-old Spencer Davis, whose life was saved thanks to the swift actions of his coaches, an emergency preparedness plan, and the availability of a ZOLL AED that provided the critical direction necessary for his coaches to deliver high-quality CPR.Starting in February, National Heart Health Month, this inspiring series of short-form videos will be released over ZOLL’s social media channels (@zollpublicsafety) with a long form video available on AnyoneCanHelp.com. The goal is to shine a spotlight on how AEDs empower ordinary people to become extraordinary lifesavers during high-pressure situations.

A Story Worth Sharing

The story begins in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, where Spencer, a promising sophomore athlete, collapsed during a football practice due to Commotio Cordis, a rare and often fatal cardiac arrest caused by a blow to the chest. His coaches—Homer DeLattre, Rodney Chism, and Adam Walstrom—along with an athletic trainer and later a police officer, sprang into action. For 13 minutes, guided by the ZOLL AED’s real-time verbal and visual instructions, they performed high-quality CPR and delivered two life-saving shocks, ultimately reviving Spencer and preventing brain damage. Today, Spencer is thriving and has launched The Spencer Davis Foundation to advocate for AED access and education.

What to Expect in the Series

Each video will highlight a different individual’s perspective, including:

  • The Coaches: Spencer’s coaches share how the ZOLL AED provided clear guidance and feedback that enabled them to administer CPR and two shocks,, while remaining calm under immense pressure.
  • Spencer’s Cardiologist: Spencer’s doctor explains how the AED’s feedback ensures CPR is high-quality – delivered with precision and accuracy – improving chances of survival and recovery.
  • The Athletic Trainer and First Responders: Their insights on the importance of having an emergency preparedness plan and an AED accessible within moments to underscore how critical timing is in such situations.
  • Spencer’s Parents: Spencer’s Mom and Dad express their gratitude to all those involved in Spencer’s rescue and appreciation for their school’s level of preparedness.
  • Spencer’s Perspective: Spencer reflects on his experience and his mission to ensure that other communities have the tools and training needed to save lives.
  • The Community Impact: A look at how the coaches’ actions and Spencer’s survival has inspired others in the Hollidaysburg community to feel more confident using AEDs in an emergency and advocate for AED awareness and education.
